Questions and answers

The questions people ask us, answered plainly.

Whether you are a bishop, a chancellor, a parish priest or a parishioner, here is what you are likely to want to know before taking the next step.

For bishops and chanceries

The questions a diocesan office usually asks before agreeing to a pilot.

How does a diocese get started with Parish OS?

A diocese starts with a free 90-day pilot in a few parishes, then expands in stages. We begin with a conversation, agree what success looks like, fully set up the pilot parishes, and review the results with you before any wider decision. If it is not right, you walk away at zero cost.

Is Parish OS approved by our diocese?

Parish OS is an independent product, and approval is always the diocese's own decision. We support a formal evaluation: a briefing for the chancery, a security briefing, a pilot with the bishop's or vicar general's agreement, and answers to your questions in writing.

Who owns the data, and who can see it?

The parish and the diocese own their data, not us. Each parish manages its own records, and the diocese sees what its role is permitted to see. We never sell or share parishioner data.

What happens to our records if we stop using Parish OS?

You can ask for a full export of your parish or diocese data at any time, so you are never locked in. Your records belong to you, and we will work with you on a clean handover if you decide to leave.

Does Parish OS respect canon law and Church practice?

Parish OS is designed to support Church practice, not replace it. It keeps a digital copy alongside your original registers, and certificates remain under the pastor's authority. On Mass offerings, it records what your parish decides and does not set stipend policy. See our Security and trust page for the detail.

Can each parish keep its own control?

Yes. Every parish has its own space and its own roles. The diocese sees what its role is permitted to see, such as overviews, reports and transfers, without taking over the parish's records.

For parish priests and parish offices

Practical questions from the people who will use it every day.

Do we have to give up our paper registers?

No. Keep your original books. Parish OS holds a searchable digital copy beside them, so the records you use most are safe and quick to find while the originals stay where they are.

How long does it take to get started?

Most parishes start with a short walkthrough, then our team helps bring in your family lists. You can begin with the essentials, such as families and sacrament records, and add more modules when you are ready.

What if our parish team is not technical?

That is normal and expected. Each person, such as the priest, secretary or catechism teacher, sees a simple view built around their own work, and our team trains your staff.

What happens when the parish priest is transferred?

The records stay with the parish, not with the person. A new priest or secretary is given access by role, and the history is already there, which is one of the main reasons parishes adopt Parish OS.

What about parishioners who do not use smartphones?

Your office team can keep a family's record up to date and handle their requests directly, so no family is left out if they prefer not to use the app. The app is an extra convenience, not a requirement.

What if our internet connection is poor?

Parish OS is light and designed to work on ordinary mobile connections. If connectivity is a challenge in your area, tell us during the demo and we will show you exactly what to expect.

How much does it cost?

The 90-day pilot is free, fully set up for you, and you can walk away at zero cost. After that, pricing depends on the size of your parish and the modules you need, and we agree it with you, never automatically.

For parishioners

Short answers for families.

How do I get the Parish OS app?

Your parish shares a simple link or code. Open it on your phone and you are in, with no complicated sign-up.

Is my family's information private?

Yes. Your details are used only by your parish, only the people who need them can see them, and we never sell or share them.

Do I have to use the app?

No. Your parish office can still help you in person. The app is there for convenience.

Security and data

Plain answers. Detailed hosting information is shared with your diocese's team during due diligence.

Where is our data hosted?

Parish OS is hosted securely in the cloud. We share the specific hosting details with your diocese's team as part of due diligence, once we are speaking about a pilot.

Is our data encrypted?

Yes. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access is controlled by role.

Who can see children's catechism information?

Only the people who need it for their role, such as the catechism teacher and the priest. Information about minors is handled on a need-to-know basis.

Is there a record of who changed what?

Yes. Important changes are recorded, so any question about a record can be answered with facts.

Mass intentions and offerings

Offering rules belong to the Church and your diocese, not to software.

Does Parish OS decide how Mass offerings are handled?

No. Rules on Mass offerings, including how many a priest may accept and how offerings are shared, are set by canon law and your diocese. Parish OS records what your parish decides and does not set or change stipend policy.

Does Parish OS work with WhatsApp?

Yes, as an optional add-on for parishes that want to reach families on WhatsApp. It is not required to use Parish OS.
